Abstract

Mammillaria spinosissima subsp. pilcayensis is a cactus endemic to Mexico, restricted to specific localities in Guerrero and the State of Mexico. The presence of this plant has been affected by human activities such as urbanization, land use change and illegal trade. Mammillaria spinosissima is a slow-growing species with a restricted distribution due to its very specific ecological and climatic requirements, which makes it especially vulnerable. It is essential to implement conservation strategies for this species that include environmental education for the local population, sustainable management of natural resources, effective propagation techniques, regulation of trade, and protection of its habitat.
